If you happen to be following on Instagram, you’ll know that I was in the city of Pittsburg for 24 hours last week. I was there for a work-related trip for my acting career which was a first for me and I was really excited about it. It was super last minute so I soon as I got the email that I had to be there, I went online and booked everything I needed ASAP. I didn’t want to deal with flying and also plane tickets were quite expensive, So I booked bus tickets from Megabus to get there and Greyhound to get back. The trip both ways was about 8 hours with stops on the way. Getting there was easy peasy. My bus out of NYC was at 8 am and I got to Pittsburgh at 4:30 pm. The bus was also practically empty. Getting back was a nightmare. The bus was supposed to depart at 8 pm but was delayed by an hour and a half and it was a crowded ride. Luckily I still managed to not have anyone sit next to me and I got to NYC at 5 am. I have to admit, it was nice walking through Times Square at that time. After I secured a way to get there and back , I had to find a hotel room on the cheap side for the night.
Where I Stayed
Luckily I was able to find a room at The Doubletree Hotel right in downtown Pittsburgh on Trip.com for under $100. It was a 10-minute walk from the Megabus bus stop. Check-in was at 3 pm, but I got there at 5 pm, and it was a hassle-free check-in. I was asked if I wanted a lower or higher floor. I went halfway in-between. The lobby is pretty big and the business center is also located there. I didn’t get a chance to check out their other amenities such as their pool, gym, conference rooms, etc.

Where I Ate
So I ate at 3 different places while there. I made sure to look up places ahead of time on my google maps and pinned them. The first night, I ate at The Commoner which is located in the Kimpton Hotel. It’s a gastropub that serves farm-to-table eats with a British flair. I wasn’t expecting it to be busy on a Monday night, but it was packed and I actually had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. I was planning to eat at the bar but it was fully seated. I ended up having the Commoner Burger with fries and their cocktail The Bucs Make Me Drink which was served in a baseball cap. The burger was probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Definitely a great place to check out.
Since I had a few things to do the next day, I decided to stay close and check out the Bigelow Grille which is located in the Doubletree or next to it, I’m not really sure but they’re connected. It’s a spacious restaurant with a decent sized bar. I went in around 1 pm on a Tuesday and it was empty which was nice. I had their Salmon salad which had Brussel sprouts, apple, bulgur wheat, fine herbs, lemon oil. It was absolutely delicious and a really clean meal.
Lastly, I ate right before getting on the bus at Bakersfield Penn Ave which is a Mexican restaurant. I wanted something quick and a margarita before getting on the bus. I ate at the bar in the downstairs area. I really like the rustic vibe of the whole place. I had 3 tacos. The Bistec, fish and the Baja Shrimp which was my favorite. To drink I had a Pineapple Margarit which was exactly what I needed to get through. the
What I Did
There were so many place I wanted to checkout, but with the short amount of time there, I had to pick one specific thing, and that thing was the Dusquene Incline.
The Duquesne Incline was completed in 1877. It is 800 feet long, 400 feet in height, is inclined at a 30-degree angle and has one of the best views of Downtown Pittsburgh. I took an uber there since I did this right before getting dinner and leaving, but there are busses that can take you there. The establishment is exact fair and cash only. The roundtrip ride
The Incline itself is a bit scary because you’re riding on a century-old cable car. Although it’s very beautiful, you do hear ALL of the creeks and cracks. It didn’t help that I was the only person on it going up. I was too scared to stand up during the incline, but the view was amazing.
Once up top, there is a museum of Pittsburgh history, which includes photos and articles on inclines from around the world which is informative as well as restaurants with views of Downtown Pittsburgh. You are also able to walk around the neighboorhood where you can see and capture more amazing views of the city.
Overall, it was a great trip and I really enjoyed going to a city I’ve never been to before. I’m also really proud that I did it all by myself. It’s something I definitely want to do more of in the next year. Have you ever been to Pittsburgh? Let me know in the comments or HERE!
