Foodie Review: Mexicue – Kitchen and Bar

What’s up, Guys?!? I know it’s been a while since my last blog post (a week to be exact, so not that long), but I’m back with some new exciting content that I’ve been cooking up starting with this foodie review post.

I went out to eat with a friend last week at a restaurant I’ve walked by numerous times, but never tried. With 3 locations in the city and a 4th that recently opened up Uptown on 1429 3rd Avenue , Mexique which started out as a food truck is a restaurant mixing the influences of Mexican traditions and the American south.

The Food:

We got an order of their Classic Nachos, Mexican Street Corn and 2 Spicy margaritas made with their house fireball tequila to start with. I was feeling a little under the weather at the time, and the margaritas very much saved me with the delicious spices. We then ordered some tacos. We had the Wild Rock Shrimp, Nashville Hot Chicken, Fried Avocado, Smoky Chicken and the Brisket. The tacos were full of mouth-watering flavors and the ingredients were very fresh. Personally, my favorites were the Wild Rock Shrimp, and the Friend Avocado. They both completely exceeded my expectations. The Nashville Chicken was a little too salty for me but I loved how spicy it was.

Decor:

We went to the Chelsea location on 8th Avenue, and we got there around 2:30 pm. It wasn’t crowded, but I can easily see it being a place that gets packed later on in the day. The decor has both a modern and rustic southern charm to it with a bit of a tropical vibe. The first thing that stood out to me was the bar which was fully packed with different bourbons and tequilas. I would definitely sit at the bar next time, just because of how spacious, bright and inviting it is.  They also have a to-go area with a different entrance which is really convenient if you work around the area and want to grab a quick bite.

We had an amazing experience and will definitely be coming back for the tasty drinks and food. They also do brunch at this location if that’s something you’re into. My only complaint would be that they don’t have a location in Brooklyn, but who knows. It might be something in their future.
