Do you know how to color block? If not, no worries! The color blocking trend has been all around this year, but of course, I was late to the game when it comes to putting a specific look together. Lucky for us, the trend seems to be sticking around based on some of the looks I’ve seen from both NYFW and PFW. To be honest I don’t really know the rules on how to actually go about color blocking. I just love the idea of playing with colors, which I feel people don’t do often. So I decided to look up some helpful hints to put a look of my own together.
First off, there is a theory to color blocking, and that theory is color theory. Again I’m not an expert on this. However, there is a color wheel that I found online that can help you begin your journey. The
Complimentary would be choosing 2 colors that are on opposite ends, Analogous would be choosing colors that are next to each other and Triadic is choosing 2 or 3 colors that are 3 spaces apart. The color wheel below demonstrates how easy it is to achieve each of these. combinations.
For this particular look, I wasn’t quite sure which combination I wanted to go with. I already had the shirt, which I got at a thrift store about 3 years ago. As you can see, the shirt itself is major color block goals on its own, so I knew the bottom had to compliment all the colors of the shirt. I found these pants at H&M.
